Guadalupe Gaos Ballester
You can start your own Collection of fine etchings from the
renowned Mexican artist Guadalupe Gaos Ballester.
The collection consists of beautiful representations of marine
life, landscapes, still life and folkloric scenes of Mexico, with a particular
perception of color and sense of composition that the artist brings to each
of her creations.
Her work, presented in diverse formats, stand out for its richness
of details as well as for the perfection and delicacy of its manufacture.
Born in Mexico City in 1951. It is the third generation of family
artists from Valencia.
His passion for art led her to begin training for eight years
of age in the engraving Ballester, founded by her mother and aunt.
there took his first steps inked prints by artists such as Maria
Teresa Toral, Guillermo Silva and Santamaría Vicente Gandía.
During four years he studied drawing and painting with masters
such as Enrique Zapata and Judith Jacobson.
Guadalupe is a biologist by profession, a graduate of the UNAM,
where, in addition, studied skill.
Since then, his inclination toward nature has been reflected
in his works that invite the viewer to dive into the depths of the oceans, or
to make a tour of the most beautiful landscapes in different parts of the world.
The technique
"The development of engraving in copper is a technique
which dates back to the fourteenth century, Guadalupe explains the process:
"Start to a copper plate coated with varnish, which traces
the design using a metal tip. After the plate is immersed in an acid solution
that bites the metal, and recording the picture in low relief. The plate is
cleaned and ready to be inked.
"The inking technique requires great manual dexterity and
sense of color. The copper plate was engraved apply printing inks of different
colors using their fingers, toothpicks and rubber rollers. Then place the wet
paper on the inked plate and passes through a press. This technique produces
a series of inked prints individually, but of similar design, makes each piece
of art is unique and singular. "
His work
Guadalupe Gaos has participated in exhibitions in Mexico, United
States and Canada, including the following: Thirteenth Biennial art of Baja
California, solo show at Gallery One (Jalisco)
V Symposium of Latin American photography: exhibition of the
series "The Sor Juana dream "with photo etchings co-produced with
photographer Victor Leon (Havana, Cuba).
Guadalupe But not only enjoys creating each of his works during
17 years has taught courses and workshops in drawing and printmaking.
With a spark in the eyes and an air of satisfaction, says it
is never too late to find the true vocation of man.
Now runs her own gallery and studied administration, believing
that learning is a continuous process.
Guadalupe belongs to the third generation of family of Valencia
artist.
She received her artistic education at the prestigious “Taller
de Grabado Ballester”, founded by her mother Rosa and her aunt Josefina
Ballester in Mexico City in 1968.
A workplace for renowned artist such as Guillermo Silva Santamaria
and Vicente Gandia.
Her artistic vision is enhanced by a master degree in plant
ecology, Vochysiaceae. Guadalupe Gaos, Flora de Veracruz 4, Vochysiaceas.
At her Studio in Ensenada, Baja California, Guadalupe employs
elements from the ancient etching technique such as burins, varnish, acid and
copper plates on which she engraves her drawings. Then hand-inks it before printing
them on cotton paper using a hand press.
Editions are limited, numbered and signed by the artist.
The artwork of Guadalupe Gaos Ballester is exhibited in exclusive art galleries
of Mexico.
