TALAVERA CERAMIC FROM, PUEBLA, MEXICO.
The ancient abilities of the craftsmen from Puebla, enrich the typical process of creating excelent pieces of talavera.
Step # 1 SPECIAL CLAY
The material composed of two types of clay are mixed, filtered, and left to lose dampness. Then the special mixture is kneaded by foot, and acrried to the work shop.
Step # 2 MOLDED ARTISTIC
The abilities and creativity of the craftsmen are shown upon given form in their wheel or mold, to great and single piece, that after are left to dry from eight to twelve weeks.
Step # 3 BAKED OF TEXTURE
Here the molded pieces acquire the special texture of the Talavera and their unique color, called “jaguete”, after being heated to 1562 Farenheit.
Step # 4 VARNISHED CRISTALLINE
The pieces are submerged in glaze, that grants them its special shine and color, that distinguish it to the fine Talavera.
Step # 5 ARTISTIC DECORATION
Now ready for the distinctive touch, the pieces are painted by hand with the patience and imagination of our craftsman, who use horse - hairs and paint with mineral base, so when left outdoors, they do not lose their original touch.
Step # 6 BAKED OF COMPLETE
Returns to bake to 1922 F, the pieces go through their final process that converts them into those brillant and colorful works recognized all over the world as authentic Talavera.
As in any work of art, the signature of talavera piece constitutes a sign of distinction, Traditionally, under the ordenanzas del gremio of 1653 (The code that regulated the work of the producers of talavera), The manufacturers were required to mark their work with a unique signature.
