Brief description of Artists on exhibition.

Huichol

The Huichol indians have a long artistic tradition. Before the Europeans arrived, they used to create art similar as today, except they didn't have beads. They used shells, rocks, seeds, Thorns and wood, dyed with natural colors derived from bugs and berries. Now they do vivid bead designs depicting visions from their rituals and the wisdom of their lives.

Rodo Padilla

His sculptures are made in ceramic and bronze are limited and numbered editions, each one has an authenticity certificate signed by the artist. The figurines and sculptures are fired at high temperatures at 1250°C (Stoneware), and the bronzes are painted

 

 

 

Vicente Martinez

One of the masters of ceramics in Tonala, he is a schoolteacher of many famous ceramic artists. He create ceramic sculpture eggs with the sun and moons inside, it also creates frogs, butterflies and mushrooms.

Alberto Vazquez Navarrete

Born in Mexico City in 1952. He studied architecture and initiates his career as an artist at his father atelier, Mr. Antonio Vazquez Parra. In 1995 he receives the

Honorary International Citizen New Orleans award. Conception: generic colors, soft tonality, transparent and vibrant chiaroscuro (contrast for perspective), scales of gradual iIIumination missing white with the tonal grays or compensatory colors to give the balance, match and clarity.
Medium: Fresh oil colors, applied with a palette knife on a stretched white untextured canvas that has been treated with resins.
Theme: Typical Mexican landscape showing the traditional characteristic customs.
Style: Basically is objective and symbolic impressionism, but uses expressionistic drawing, claroscuro and temporal chromatic atmosphere to form this unique style.

Israel Vazquez Roman

Born in Cuernavaca, Mor. The technique used: From drawings, watercolors true mixed (Oil and acrylics) apply on wood and canvas treated with marble dust.

Juan Silva
He learned the art of Tables Votives from his mother's people the Huichol Indians. His abilities to depict the traditional tribal themes were soon recognized. In 1976 he moved to Baja California where his traditional works soon came in to demand. Studied under Spanish artist Marcos Robinson who taught him how to put motion in to his art. The enhancement of the ancient art form of the Huichol Indian portraying new objects has caught the eyes of many art admirers. The Huichol Indians They pride themselves as being the only tribe not conquered by the Conquistadores. Family historical events and religious offerings were preserved in pictures crafted in this medium. Juan Silva works present visual pleasures of satisfying colors and designs.

Olegario Luis Sosa

Step forward in the art of alebrijes". An art finely carved, fantastically colored, radiating with beauty and imagination. Olegario Luis Sosa, originally from Mitla, Oaxaca, has become one of the grand masters of the art of "alebrijes". Thanks to his perfectionism he has developed a style that he has mastered known as "fine alebrijes". This represents a step forward in the development of this type of art, characterized for its color, fantasy and movement. It is an art finely carved, fantastically colored, radiating in beauty.

Alebrijes from Oaxaca -

These are carved wood pieces and hand painted called folk Art in Mexico. Full of colors and pieces strange to the eyes some made form imaginations of people that lives on the mountains of Oaxaca.
The artists Joaquin Hernandez Vasquez made commercial pieces very colorfull. Olegario Luis Sosa from Mitla, Oaxaca. carves his own designs of fine pieces different to the other standard pieces call alebrijes.

Olinala

Without any doubts, one of the most important handcrafts in Mexico is the lacqueur tecnique. Olinala is located in the mountain area in Guerrero state bordering the states of Puebla and Oaxaca..There materials : chiaseed oil, linseed oil, soils and pigments. The chiaseed oil Scratching the piece,they decorate while the piece is wet; most are animals and birds in different aspects, jumping up, jumping down, playing, alert ,etc. Finishing the scratching they apply pigments.They usually do the scratching with cactus thorns. The dotting is made with the point of a turkey feather. It take aproximate 55 days to finish one piece. Other technique is the golden work . The used litlle gold leafs and silver stripes that you applied with the chiaseed oil. Each one is unique and has the time and heart of this wonderful artists.

David Mercer - Dichroic Glass

Dichroic coated glass is produced by a process called “thin film physics” and is generally referred to as a color separator. It’s normally used as an interference filter in scientific measuring or correcting applications. To get this effect, thin layers of metallic oxides, such as titanium, silicon, and magnesium are deposited upon the surface of the glass in a high temperature, vacuum furnace. The glass to be coated is carefully cleaned, and fastened to a planetary arm in the top of the furnace chamber. The oxides are placed in a crucible on the bottom of the chamber. Air inside of the chamber is removed with a high vacuum-producing gyro-pump, and the chamber is heated to 300 degrees Fahrenheit. The glass being coated can be a flat or rippled glass and the color will differ on the different textures. MEXICAN PEWTER

The composition is Aluminum 89.18 %, Cooper 3.19 %, Silicon 7.63 %, Lead 0.00 %. Each piece is manually molded in fine sand with an original model; when the sand mold is ready, metal is poured into it. Then it is highly polished by a high quality craftsmen. the process of sand modeling, which is done by the hands of our Mexican craftsman. Even though the pewter has a silver appearance, in reality it is a very special allow of several metals made to fit the advantage of pewter. As decorative objects, need very little maintenance, dusting and cleaning can be done as simple as with a damp cloth. But the best part is that they are ment to be used in the kitchen. The ability is keeping hot or cold food. You can use them in the oven. Great presentation of your food.
